Tom Lucas Returning for his 9th year to Celebration of Fine Show

Wyoming Cowboy Joins National Artists at the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - January 16, 2011– Western painter Tom Lucas heads south for the winter from Wyoming to be featured at the Celebration of Fine Art, a perennial favorite event of art lovers from across the country. The doors opened at the “Big White Tents” in a NEW location on the Southwest corner of Hayden Rd. and the Loop 101 in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday, January 14, 2012. The event will be open daily from 10 am to 6 pm through Sunday, March 25, 2012.
The 40,000 square-foot tent is home to 100 artists from around the country, including Western artist Tom Lucas of Lander, Wyoming. In his ninth year, Tom will be showcasing his Native American themed oil paintings, which preserve this vanishing culture. His studio includes a shadow box, which he sets up his still life artifacts and contemporary props. Using his artistic license he develops a composition that shares a story about the West and Native American culture. Tom Lucas' interest and passion of ancestral tool making has led him to be documented on PBS in such films as Sheep-Eaters: Life in the Mountains and Archers of the Yellowstone. Tom has mastered replicating Indian artifacts (Big-horn sheep bows, War-bonnets, beaded clothing and shoes, horn scoops, knives, arrowheads, etc) many of which are subjects in his paintings.
"I love the stories of the West", says Tom Lucas smiling with his cowboy hat and comfortable Western attire. "The Celebration of Fine Art affords me the opportunity to meet new clientele from around the world and share those stories. Back in Wyoming the wind is blowing and the snow is falling – here in Scottsdale, the sun is out and its warmth brings out the art collectors and visitors to the valley," Tom is co-owner of Silver Sage Gallery in Dubois, Wyoming and a member of the Western Artists of America and the Oil Painters of America.
Tom Lucas joins Western artists James Ayres, Marty LeMessurier, Richard Mitchell and many others in Scottsdale this winter. The show features an outdoor sculpture garden, with life-sized and monumental work by Western sculptors; Scott Rogers, Curt Mattson, Dave La Mure, Martha Pettigrew, to name a few. Also in the courtyard, visitors can enjoy watching a working kiln, where artists fire ceramic and glass works throughout the duration of the show.
Susan Morrow Potje, co-owner and show director shares her passion about the show, "We’ve built a 20+ year reputation on delivering quality art and a wonderful, welcoming experience to our visitors. From first-time buyers to long-time collectors, we hear from our guests that they can’t wait to come back to experience the Celebration. Moving to a new site at the 101 and Hayden Rd. gives us an opportunity to make some changes and improvements to the overall set up. One thing that won’t change is our commitment to excellence."
The one-time purchase admission pass grants unlimited access to the 10 week-long event. Because the 40,000-square-foot tent is set up as a working studio for artists, visitors will have the opportunity to see art transform with each visit and meet with the artists. This is the place where "Art Lovers and Artists Connect".
Admission to the event is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and military; children under 12 are free. It is important to note the admission price is a one-time purchase good for unlimited visits the entire season. Parking is Free!
